This 4-month series is intended for a committed in-person group interested in exploring the intersection of movement and the undergirding principles of Hakomi: body-mind holism, mindfulness, non-violence, unity, and organicity. Through guided experiential explorations, we will follow pleasure and curiosity to know ourselves more deeply from the inside out. In addition the five corporeal senses, we will engage the additional fields of our embodied experience– interoception, proprioception, exteroception, and intercorporeality* – to expand awareness and the possibilities for how we may live in our body, among other bodies, and in connection to earth's body with more intention, freedom, and reciprocity. The series includes:
8 virtual group check-ins - virtual gatherings will incorporate guided grounding and embodied meditation, creative explorations, empathic and active listening, and small-group sharing.
2 one-on-one virtual coaching sessions - these sessions will provide participants with personally tailored somatic and therapeutic support.
4 in-person group workshops - details below
A daytime retreat and closing ritual in nature - details TBD
Each in-person workshop will incorporate solo and collective practices that draw from the following traditions: expressive arts, contemporary dance and performance (improvisation, contemplative movement, release technique), Hakomi, Mind-Body Coaching, developmental movement and experiential anatomy (Feldenkrais and Body-Mind Centering), Qi Gong, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Although each workshop unfolds in response to the group, there is a loose structure as follows:
Opening meditation inviting grounding & orientation
Circling & collective listening
Warm up for breath & body (guided improvisation)
Exploratory movement practice exploring Hakomi principles (movement scores, puzzles, and playful invitations to prompt spontaneous creativity)
Group reflection & opportunity to share
Closing practice
*Fields of experience defined
Interoception – awareness of sensations from inside our body
Proprioception – awareness that comes from the movement of our body in space
Exteroception – awareness of sensations from outside our body
Intercorporeality – awareness that comes from the relationship of our body to other bodies
This group is intended for fem-identifed folks.
